The quick version
- Rhodes proposed himself as Team USA's leader on the Crown Jewel post-show, per Fightful and Ringside News. It is a proposal, and WWE has not named a captain for Team USA.
- Rey Mysterio announced the five-on-five Team USA vs. Team Mexico match and said he will lead Team Mexico.
- Survivor Series: WarGames is Saturday, Nov. 28, at Daikin Park in Houston.
Cody Rhodes wants to captain Team USA at Survivor Series. After beating Randy Orton at WWE Crown Jewel on Saturday, Nov. 7, he said on the post-show that he would like to lead the American side against Rey Mysterio's Team Mexico, per Fightful and Ringside News.
What he said
Rhodes said of Mysterio: "He's gonna lead Team Mexico." He said he would like to lead Team USA and "find a team of my own." He then spoke to Mysterio directly: "Rey Mysterio, if you're listening to me, let's make that happen at Survivor Series. Let's do that; you're on," per Fightful's transcription.
Ringside News transcribed the same remarks with slightly different wording and the added line "I'd love something light, something fun." The two transcripts agree on the substance.
The match so far
Mysterio said on Stephanie McMahon's "What's Your Story?" podcast that he had spoken with Raw General Manager Adam Pearce and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis about "a classic five vs. five Survivor Series match," Team USA against Team Mexico. Mysterio has since said he will captain Team Mexico. Our earlier stories cover both: the announcement and his captaincy.
What is not known
- Whether WWE will make Rhodes the captain. We found no WWE statement on Team USA.
- Who else is on either team.
- Whether Rhodes' plan fits the show's other matches. Survivor Series also has WarGames matches, and our women's WarGames rumor story covers one report.
