Rey Mysterio will captain Team Mexico in the traditional five-on-five Survivor Series match against Team USA, WrestlingHeadlines reported on Saturday, Nov. 7. It says Mysterio announced his role on social media after a podcast appearance. TJR Wrestling, which also reported it, points to a post on his Instagram.
How it came about
On Friday, Nov. 6, Mysterio said on "What's Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon" that he had talked with Raw General Manager Adam Pearce and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis about a classic five-on-five elimination match at Survivor Series, Team USA against Team Mexico. He did not say then whether he would wrestle. Our earlier story has what he said. Mysterio is a WWE Hall of Famer and the general manager of AAA, the Mexican promotion WWE owns.
What is known
- The match is set for WWE Survivor Series: WarGames on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2026, at Daikin Park in Houston, per WrestlingHeadlines and Wrestling Inc.
- Mysterio leads Team Mexico, per WrestlingHeadlines. TJR Wrestling says the same.
- WrestlingHeadlines says the traditional elimination match was a staple of the show until WarGames became its centerpiece in 2022.
What needs a second look
The Instagram caption TJR quotes reads: "You all heard the big announcement this morning…. you gota be there! US Vs Mexico See you in H Town Link in bio!!" That text does not use the word captain. Both outlets say the post names him captain, and we have not opened the post ourselves. We have not heard from WWE or Mysterio.
What is not known
- Who else is on Team Mexico, and who is on Team USA.
- Whether the teams are men's, women's or mixed.
- Whether Mysterio will wrestle in the match.
What to watch
WWE's own roster for the match. Pearce and Aldis are the two people Mysterio said he spoke with.
Source: WrestlingHeadlines and TJR Wrestling, both describing Mysterio's own social media post, with Wrestling Inc's transcript of his podcast comments. We did not open the post or hear the podcast. Nothing in this story is a rumor, but the captain detail rests on two outlets reading one post.
