This is a rumor and it is not confirmed. Fightful Select reportedly says WWE changed the result of a six-woman tag match on the Oct. 9 SmackDown on the day of the show. The same report says Tiffany Stratton's Money in the Bank win had been the plan for a number of weeks. WWE has not commented.

The quick version

  • Not confirmed by WWE or by any wrestler.
  • Reliability: Single source, not confirmed. The detail on the tag match comes from Fightful Select, as relayed by Wrestling News. We could not read the Fightful Select original.
  • Fightful's own public post is narrower. It says there were no major changes to Stratton's win in the weeks before the show.

What is being reported

Wrestling News, which relayed the Fightful Select report on Nov. 7, quotes it this way: "We're told that as of that day, the result was going to be the opposite." Wrestling News says the match was a six-woman tag on the Oct. 9 SmackDown in Lafayette, Louisiana. By its account, Stratton, Jacy Jayne and Lash Legend beat Lola Vice, Roxanne Perez and Sol Ruca. Wrestling News attributes this line to the report as well: "The women involved in the Money in the Bank ladder match had learned the night before (Thursday) that Stratton would be winning."

Stratton won the women's Money in the Bank briefcase the next night, Saturday, Oct. 10, in New Orleans, per Wrestling News. It says all six women from the tag match were in the ladder match.

Fightful's own public post of Nov. 6 says only that there were "no major changes" to Stratton's win "in the weeks prior to the show," and that the winner was revealed to those in the match on Thursday. Cageside Seats' Nov. 7 roundup says earlier rumors had pointed to Roxanne Perez as the planned winner, and that Fightful Select now says Stratton was the plan for a number of weeks and that no last-minute change was made to the win itself.

What we know for certain

  • Stratton won the briefcase, then cashed it in on Chelsea Green to win the WWE Women's Championship at Crown Jewel on Nov. 7. See our results story.
  • WWE has not said anything about how the finishes were decided.

What would confirm or kill it

A WWE comment, or a wrestler who was in the match saying the finish changed, would back it up. Fightful's public wording does not rule it out, because it covers the briefcase win and not the tag match. We would drop it if WWE or a participant said the finish was never changed.
