This is a rumor and it is not confirmed. Wrestling World reports that a Gunther vs. Finn Balor singles match, said to have been planned for WWE Crown Jewel, has been dropped. WWE never announced the match and has not explained why it is not on the card. Crown Jewel starts Saturday, Nov. 7, at 12 PM ET.
The quick version
- Not confirmed by WWE, Gunther or Balor.
- Reliability: Single source, not confirmed. Wrestling World is the origin. Its report is not bylined on the page we read.
- The match was never on WWE's announced card. The card lists four matches, per Wrestling Inc.
What is being reported
Wrestling World says Gunther and Balor "were reportedly expected" to meet at Crown Jewel and that local ads in Riyadh also promoted the pairing. It says reports had suggested WWE would announce the match on the Nov. 6 SmackDown, and that the show instead ended with a confrontation and no announcement. Its headline says the match was "reportedly" dropped. It gives no source for the plan or for the change, and it says WWE has not explained the reported change.
F4W Online reported earlier that posters of Balor and Gunther were seen among Crown Jewel promotional material while the original venue was being built, per Dave Meltzer's note as quoted by F4W. Meltzer wrote that Balor vs. Gunther was on the original lineup, and that workers in Saudi Arabia may have been using an old lineup if it was changed. We have seen only that excerpt, from a search listing, and not the full report.
What we know for certain
- Wrestling Inc's final card lists four matches: Roman Reigns vs. Sami Zayn, Liv Morgan vs. Chelsea Green, Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match, and The Vision vs. Penta and Je'Von Evans. Gunther and Balor are not on it. See our card story.
- On the Nov. 6 SmackDown, Gunther demanded the "real" Balor. Balor came out without the Demon paint and fought back, and Gunther left the ring before a Coup de Grace, per Wrestling Inc and NDTV. See our SmackDown results.
- NDTV says WWE's official event preview does not list a match between them.
What would confirm or kill it
A late announcement of the match before or during Crown Jewel would kill the report. Their feud simply continuing on SmackDown without a Crown Jewel match would fit it. We have not been able to confirm any of this with WWE.
