This is a rumor and it is not confirmed. WrestleVotes of Fightful Select reports that WWE is offering crew members $3,000 in "hazard pay" to travel to Saudi Arabia for Crown Jewel on Saturday, Nov. 7. We have not seen a statement from WWE.

The quick version

  • Not confirmed by WWE.
  • Reliability: Single source, not confirmed. One outlet, which says it spoke to two people at WWE.
  • The report says several crew members chose not to make the trip despite the offer.

What is being reported

Fightful posted the report on Nov. 5. It quotes WrestleVotes: "WWE is offering crew members $3,000 in hazard pay for this weekend's trip to Saudi Arabia." It adds: "Several crew members have opted out of traveling to Riyadh despite the additional compensation." More detail is behind Fightful Select's paywall, which we did not read.

Slam Wrestling's summary says WrestleVotes spoke to two people at WWE and that the extra pay "traditionally" has not been offered for standard crew work. We are relying on Slam for that wording, not on the original.

Why it is being talked about

Slam Wrestling points to reports of attacks in the region this week. It says a claim of an attack on Riyadh's international airport was not confirmed by Saudi authorities. We have not verified those events ourselves.

Crown Jewel was moved indoors to The Venue, also called ANB Arena, after organizers said on Oct. 28 it would leave Riyadh Season Stadium, per Slam.

What we know for certain

WWE's Crown Jewel card is set, including Roman Reigns vs. Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match. On Nov. 4, TKO's Mark Shapiro told investors the company has "staged all of our events in the Middle East flawlessly" this year. PWInsider's Mike Johnson wrote on Nov. 5 that WWE is going to Riyadh, saying "Zero. They are going."

What would confirm or kill it
