PWInsider is reporting that WWE has officially acquired EVOLVE Wrestling.
This news has been rumored over the last month, but it seems the deal has been completed. WWE now owns the rights to the brand name and the ability to run EVOLVE events, but it remains to be seen if that will happen down the line.
What does seem to be all but confirmed is that EVOLVE’s content library will eventually make its way to the WWE Network. You may recall that WWE aired EVOLVE’s 10th Anniversary pay-per-view on the WWE Network last July, which featured NXT Champion Adam Cole vs. Akira Tozawa in the main event.
WWE and EVOLVE formed a partnership in 2015, which escalated in recent years with Gabe Sapolsky joining WWE as a creative consultant for NXT. Additionally, EVOLVE events over the last couple of years have featured NXT talent to provide more exposure for those considered to still be in “developmental.”
It seems that the COVID-19 pandemic was ultimately the final nail in the coffin for World Wrestling Network promotion. Stay tuned for the latest on EVOLVE’s future.
