WWE NXT Results – 8/19/2020
From Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL

Qualifying Match: Johnny Gargano def. Ridge Holland via pinfall with the One Final Beat DDT. Candice LeRae was in Johnny’s corner. The scary spot that was reported on earlier saw Ridge power-slam Gargano with Johnny landing on his head. The part where the match was stopped was edited out, though Gargano did take a moment to find his bearings on-screen.

Dakota Kai def. Jessi Kamea via pinfall. Dakota came out alone. Jessi had several offensive spots to make the match more competitive than expected. Post-match, Kai grabbed a mic and said it’ll feel so good when she kicks Io in the face at TakeOver. Shirai interrupts and brawls with Kai until Raquel emerges from the curtain to make the save. Kai and Raquel stand tall over the champ.

Backstage, Tegan Nox is asked about Candice LeRae’s recent comments. She wants to talk with Candice face-to-face about their issues.

Legado del Fantasma def. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott & Breezango via pinfall with Escobar going over Breeze. Fun fact: This is the second time Swerve has teamed with Breezango, but this time they came up short. Swerve vs. Escobar is probably still imminent, but won’t be happening at TakeOver.

Breaking news from William Regal: Legado del Fantasma vs. Breezango vs. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch in a number one contender’s match will take place on the TakeOver pre-show this Saturday to determine the next challengers for Imperium.

Pat McAfee, flanked by football players, meets Undisputed Era in the ring. Everyone clears out to let Adam and Pat talk one-on-one. Pat goes off on how he made Cole look amateur a couple weeks ago with the punt. Pat tosses the mic toward him when he’s done. Cole goes to confront Pat, but security intervenes. Cole knocks them all out, prompting the football players to step up, followed by Era. Cole gets in Pat’s face and says he’ll make Pat his b*tch at TakeOver. Undisputed Era leaves peacefully.

Rhea Ripley & Shotzi Blackheart def. Aliyah & Mercedes Martinez via pinfall with Shotzi going over Aliyah. Mercedes was taken out at the end when Rhea power-bombed her onto the concrete floor outside the barricade.

A special look at Keith Lee vs. Karrion Kross airs. The two heavyweights will do battle for the NXT Championship this Saturday.

Qualifying Match: Velveteen Dream def. Finn Balor via pinfall to advance. Cameron Grimes made his presence known on the ramp halfway through the bout. After the commercial break, Grimes sat atop the ladder with the North American Title in hand. Grimes attempted to distract both men throughout. Gargano showed up eventually to push Grimes off the ladder, knocking the ref down in the process. Bronson comes down to chase Gargano into the ring. Priest shows up to create a Johnny sandwich. Bronson tosses Johnny, then Priest kicks Bronson.

Bronson and Priest spill out, prompting Balor to dive out onto them. Timothy Thatcher randomly shows up and tosses Balor into the ring. Dream nails the DVD and elbow drop for the win. Gargano lays out Dream and raises the title. All the competitors wipe each other out until Bronson stands tall with the title.
