WWE Moving Major PPVs Off Network To Sell To Streaming Platforms?

WWE is in talks with various streaming outlets about purchasing the rights to WWE content. Steven Muehlhausen reports that Jeff Bezos of Amazon is one of the platforms interested in purchasing the WWE streaming rights to their major pay-per-view events.

As the rumor goes, if this were to happen, WWE could move major pay-per-views such as WrestleMania and SummerSlam off the WWE Network. Other platforms the company could end up working with includePeacock (the new streaming platform by NBC Universal), ESPN+ and DAZN.

These discussions began last month, according to Mike Johnson. Vince McMahon confirmed them on last week’s conference call with investors. Dave Meltzer reports Peacock could use the WWE PPV rights to build up their subscriber base like what ESPN+ did with the UFC.

In Vince’s eyes, this would be a way to get guaranteed money without having to actually sell the shows.
