WWE Friday Night SmackDown Results (9/04/20) – Roman’s First Challenger

* Bayley and Sasha Banks vs. Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

* Big E vs. Matt Riddle vs. King Corbin vs. Sheamus in a Four-Way Match to determine the No. 1 contender for the WWE Universal Championship

From the ThunderDome at Amway Center in Orlando, FL

WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman out to open the show. Heyman said he is not corrupting Reigns, Reigns is corrupting him. He delivered a strong heel promo and refused to call the competitors in the No. 1 contender’s match tonight by name. He said that’s the commentators jobs and referred to Cole and Graves as Anderson Cooper and Carmella’s latest boyfriend. Reigns explained he kept his promise and signed the contract at Payback.

After the break, Jimmy Uso walked up to Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman. Uso told Roman he was happy to see him as he’s reached out and hadn’t heard back. Heyman left. Uso said he always has his back. Roman said he was busy and walked off. Uso stated they should get a steak after the show.

Heavy Machinery beat The Miz and John Morrison. The finish saw Otis hit the caterpillar on Miz, followed by a Vader Bomb for the pinfall victory. After the match, Morrison ran off with the MITB briefcase.

Bacsktage, Big E, Drew Gulak and Lucha House Party have a cake for the returning Xavier Woods. Not only is he back to host Talking Smack but today is his birthday.

Big E promised he would be victorious tonight. A security guard informed him Woods had arrived. Big E went looking for when but Sheamus attacked him, hitting a Brogue Kick. He ended up delivering White Noise on top of a car, sending Big E into the windshield. They did a stretcher job on Big E.

Kayla Braxton attempted to provide an update after the commercial break but Sheamus interrupted. It’s probably going to be a triple-threat match later.

Alyse Ashton interviewed Sasha Banks and Bayley. Banks promised they’re going to win their titles back tonight.

Kayla interviewed Adam Pearce. Pearce stated Big E is on his way to the hospital and is out of the four-way match. They are looking for a replacement. Paul Heyman walked up and asked to speak with Pearce.

Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax beat Bayley and Sasha Banks to retain the WWE Women’s Championship. They imitated the spot at Payback when Baszler went for the Muto lock on Banks and attempted the Kirifuda clutch. But Bayley saved with a Bayley-to-belly suplex. Banks with the near fall and locked in the Banks Statement. Nia Jax made the save and went crazy on the heels. Bayley and Banks battled back to hit a double powerbomb on Baszler but Jax hit a flying crossbody off onto both of her opponents to get the win. After the match, medical personnel checked on Banks. Banks pushed them off.

Bayley helped Banks up and took her out of the ring. As they were on their way to the back, Bayley attacked Banks and worked her “injured” leg. Bayley took her back to the ring and continued the assault. Bayley attempted to put Banks’ leg in a chair but Banks countered. Bayley was able to trap Banks’ head in the chair and she jumped off the middle rope and stomped on the chair. After a commercial break, Banks was shown being loaded into an ambulance.

Sami Zayn came out with the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Jeff Hardy came out and argued with Zayn. AJ Styles came out and stated he was the uncrowned champion. A brawl between the three ensued.

Michael Cole announced Jey Uso will replace Big E in the Fatal Four-Way Match to determine the No. 1 contender to the WWE Universal Championship.

Backstage, Tucker told Otis he could not find The Miz and John Morrison. Otis isn’t worried because he doesn’t leave the contract in the briefcase but in his his lunch box.

In another part of the building, Morrison was shown with The Miz. Miz explained having the briefcase did not make him Mr. MITB. Morrison opened it to find a sanwhich.

Jey Uso went up to Roman Reigns and thanked him for getting him into the Fatal Four-Way tonight. Reigns told him to win it on his own. Uso promised victory.

Matt Riddle on his way out for the fatal four-way. As “King” Baron Corbin came out, he complained Jey Uso is in the bout because of nepotism. Riddle attacked Corbin on the ramp. Sheamus and Uso out and a brawl ensued as the show went to commercial.

Back from commercial, Bray Wyatt hosted The Firefly Funhouse instead of the match. Fans are sad “He” lost his favorite toy but he’s got good news. Next week, a special guest joins Wyatt in the Firefly Funhouse. Nikki Cross was shown watching the monitor. Alexa Bliss came up to her and apologized for breaking her mug last week.

Jey Uso beat Matt Riddle, “King” Baron Corbin and Sheamus in a Fatal Four-Way Match to become the NEW No. 1 contender to the WWE Universal Championship. The finish saw Sheamus hit Corbin with a Brogue Kick. Riddle hit Sheamus with Bro to Sleep and the Floating Bro on Corbin. Uso, unaccounted for, hit the Uso Splash on Riddle and pinned him to win the match. After, Uso celebrated and challenged Roman Reigns for the title at Clash of Champions.
