The show opens with a memorial to “Bullet” Bob Armstrong and followed by a recap of the main event match from SummerSlam.
Backstage its made clear that extra security is on hand tonight, due to the contract signing taking place, the threat of Retribution and because Vince McMahon is in the building! Vince gives Adam Pearce the job to get the Universal Title Match contract signed by the end of the night.

Jeff Hardy comes out to the ring with his new Intercontinental Championships as Cole and Graves recap his win last week. Hardy talks about how grateful he is, until he is interrupted by AJ Styles. AJ calls Hardy a liar and a cheat for using an illegal object in their match last week, stating that Hardy planned it all out. AJ tells Hardy he can not complete tonight and Hardy issues an open challenge. The show went to break as we await an open challenge opponent.
Jeff Hardy (c) vs Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Shinsuke controls the match early on and focuses on Hardy’s knee. Cole points out that Hardy is still wearing the knee brace from last week. Hardy throws Shinsuke over the announce table at AJ as the show goes to break. After the break Shinsuke continues to focus on the knee until Hardy hits Whisper in the Wind. Hardy appears to hit Shinsuke with the knee brace, leading to Swanton Bomb. Winner, and STILL Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy.
After the match SAMI ZAYN returns! He is holding the intercontinental championship he never lost. A small distraction from AJ leads to Zayn hitting Hardy with the title. The show goes to break.

Backstage Zayn talks about how AJ and Hardy are frauds for claiming to be intercontinental champion as he is the true champion.
The Firefly FunHouse with Bray Wyatt. He talks about being glad to be home with his friends and shows off Universal Championship he won at SummerSlam. Postman Pearce shows up looking for a signature on the title contract and Bray signs on behalf of The Fiend.

Graves and Cole give a quick recap of the issues between Matt Riddle and King Corbin. Riddle comes out and talks about the fact Corbin has a ransom out and wont fight him directly. The show goes to break.
Matt Riddle vs Shorty G. Shorty G attacks Riddle from behind as Riddle was focused on Corbin. Corbin accepts Riddles challenge on behalf of Shorty G. The match comes to a quick end after Riddle hits the Bro Gerrick on Shorty G. Winner, Matt Riddle

There is a recap of Talking Smack from last week, that leads to a six man tag match between The Miz and Big E.
Sasha Banks and Bayley, encounter Heavy Machinery and Big E as they are headed to the ring. The show goes to break.
Backstage, Pearce is trying to get Roman Reigns to sign the contract and Corbin accepts Riddles match for Payback.
As Bayley and Banks walk down to the ring, Cole and Graves recap Banks loss to Asuka at SummerSlam and their upcoming tag team championship match at Payback. Bayley apologies to Banks for letting her face Asuka for her title as Banks championship match history hasn’t been good. Nia Jax and Shayna Baslzer interrupt and state they are winning the tag championships this Sunday.
Backstage, Pearce is looking for Braun Strowman and finds that Drew Gulak is looking for him, wanting payback for last week. Gulak finds him and hits Strowman in the back with a chair. He tosses the chair over to Pearce who asks for his signature. Strowman will only give it, if Gulak meets him ring right now. The show goes to break.

Backstage, Sami Zayn reunites with his old crew of Cesaro and Shinsuke, who do not welcome him back with open arms and ask him to leave.
Drew Gulak vs Braun Strowman. Strowman quickly throws Gulak around the ring in an angrily manner. He hits Gulak with a senton, a choke slam and the running power slam before the 3 count. Strowman walks up the ramp and signs the contract for the triple threat match. Winner, Braun Strowman

Backstage, the Lucha House Party is attacked by Cesaro and Shinsuke before Kalisto’s matchup with Cesaro. The show goes to break.
Kalisto vs Cesaro. Before the match we get a recap of last week showing some of the tension within Lucha House Party. Out of the gate Cesaro hits Kalisto with a slam, controlling the match and showing off his power. Kalisto is able to hit a big DDT and get a near fall. The rest of Lucha House Party comes out to attack Shinsuke, while distracted Cesaro rolls Kalisto up for the win. Winner, Cesaro.
After the match, the dissension between the Lucha House Party members is growing and Kalisto walks away unhappy.

Pearce tells Vince McMahon he can’t find Roman, but the chairman tells him to go knock down Romans door and get the signature. The show goes to break.
After the break we get a preview of tomorrows Talking Smack; Sami Zayn, Big E and Matt Riddle.
Backstage, we see Nikki Cross being approached by Tamina who asks about Alexa Bliss. Bliss pops up with a older hair style with some new touches. Cross explains it looks a lot like The Fiends hair and Bliss goes off on Cross and smashes Crosses coffee mug.

Also backstage, Sheamus, The Miz and Morrison talk about strategy for their six man tag match. Sheamus is perplexed by the conversation and heads off to the ring. The show goes to break.
Pearce finally finds Roman and is trying to get him to sign the contract for the Universal Title match.

Big E & Heavy Machinery vs The Miz, John Morrison and Sheamus. Otis and Morrison start the match, before long Tucker, Otis and Big E triple team Morrison in the corner and Sheamus saves the match for his team. As the heels start to isolate Tucker, he is able to hit all three, causing Sheamus to go ring the bell as a distraction. After the break, Tucker is still isolated from his tag team partners and is taking a lot of punishment. Sheamus leaves the match after acidentally being knocked off the side of the ring and Tucker finally is able to tag in Big E. Big E finally gets his hands on The Miz and Otis takes care of Morrison. Big E hits The Big Ending on The Miz to get the win. Winner, Big E & Heavy Machinery.
Roman vows to win back the Universal Title that he never lost and states that it is a spoiler and the camera pans over to Paul Heyman! Be-lieve that!
