WWE Friday Night SmackDown Results (8/21/20) – ThunderDome Debuts

This week’s show will feature the debut of the WWE ThunderDome, in which Vince McMahon is expected to introduce. WWE Friday Night SmackDown Results (8/14/2020)
From the WWE ThunderDome at Amway Center in Orlando, FL

Vince McMahon opened the show and welcomed viewers to SmackDown and the WWE ThunderDome. The screens in the arena showed fans from watching in their homes. The Fiend lighting took over and he came out. Wyatt walked toward McMahon. Braun Strowman came out to his music. They looked at one another, as McMahon was out. As the stare down took place, several Retribution members came out. The Fiend waved goodbye. The lights went down and came back up and it was Strowman surrounded by Retribution. A brawl ensued.

The locker room cleared out with several SmackDown Superstars running to the aid of Strowman. Finally, SmackDown cleared the ring. The show went to break.

Big E vs. Sheamus. The SmackDown locker room remained at ringside. Sheamus took the early advantage but Big E countered with a tackle onto the steps. He followed with a splash on the apron. Sheamus recovered and landed a flying clothesline off the top rope. Sheamus hit a Irish Cruse back-breaker. Meanwhile, King Corbin hit Matt Riddle from behind on the outside. Riddle got up and they were pulled apart. Shea,us was setting up for his finisher but was distracted by what was going on outside. E used this to his advantage to roll up the Celtic Warrior. Winner, Big E

Backstage, The Lucha House Party trio were on the way to the ring. Shinsuke and Nakamura hit their challengers from behind. The show went to break.

Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Lucha House Party for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Early in the match, The Miz and John Morrison did a backstage promo. Metalik botched a spot where he went over the top rope and failed to perform a hurricanrana. Corey Graves mentioned on announce how he “crashed and burned.” Metalik was down while Cesaro pinned Lince Dorado. Winners and STILL WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions, Shinsuke Nakamura and Big E.

After the match, dissension between Kalisto and Dorado. Metalik held them apart.

Jeff Hardy was backstage getting treatment on his knee. They rolled a replay, which showed AJ Styles taking his knee out during the opening spot with Retribution.

Kayla Braxton brought up the footage to AJ Styles in a backstage interview. He said Hardy wasted his career. Styles walked up to Sasha Banks and Bayley and they all toasted their title belts together.

Mandy Rose was talking to someone when Kayla Braxton showed up. How are you doing? Rose stated it’s been a rough week but SummerSlam was in two days and she did not know what was going through Sonya Deville’s head. She believes there is still good in the world. She wants to speak directly to Sonya. She is choosing to see the good in her headed into the “hair vs. hair” match.

Corey Graves interviewed Bayley and Sahsa Banks. He wants to know if they’re splitting up. No, they answered in unison. Bayley says there are only two women in the WWE capable of carrying two belts, it’s them. Graves clarified Asuka has defeated them in the past, so how are they declaring her incapable? Sasha Banks asks Corey if he heard what they said on Raw? They will be successful at SummerSlam. Bayley explained everything they do is for a reason. They both bragged about holding all of the women’s titles in WWE. They have a disagreement but Bayley denies it. Corey asks about dissension. Bayley says there is no one that can beat them in a given night. Naomi comes out and asks about facing “the both” of them tonight. The challenge is accepted, with Naomi asking who will go first. Graves suggests a Beat the Clock Challenge. Naomi went at both of them as the show went to break.

Naomi vs. Sasha Banks in a Beat the Clock Challenge. Naomi hit a full nelson sit-down slam less than a minute in the match. Eventually, Banks caught Naomi in the Banks Statement to win the match. Winner in 3:39, Naomi.

Bayley w/Sasha Banks vs. Naomi in a Beath the Clock Chalenge. Bayley went over Naomi after the last match. The referee gave Bayley a moment to recover and called for the bell. Naomia hit the Rearview and pinned her for the win. Winner by pinfall, Naomi.

As a result, Bayley will face Asuka first at SummerSlam.

After the match, Banks attempted to comfort Bayley. Asuka’s music played and she came out on the stage and laughed. Banks went after Asuka, who retaliated with a kick. Asuka to the ring to go after Bayley. Eventually, Bayley escaped with her title belts and ran past Bayley on the ramp and stood on the stage with Asuka dancing in the ring.

Backstage, Jeff Hardy tested his leg. The trainer said he would clear him if he could tolerate the pain.

Kayla Braxton went up to Sonya Deville. She had no comment and would have her comments in front of the entire world. Dana Brooke came in the picture and said she was sorry for everything Deville went through this week. Deville stated it was nothing she could handle and slapped Brooke in the face.

Sonya Deville came out and stated she heard what Mandy had to say. She does not know what she wants. She knows everyone does not give a damn if she is bald o rnot. She wants their match at SummerSlam to be a No DQ match with the loser leaving WWE.

Backstage, Nikki Cross, wearing an Alexa Bliss t-shirt, said Bliss is off. The Bliss she met last week walks and talks like Bliss but is not Bliss. She has a feeling something terrible is about to happen.

Jeff Hardy vs. AJ Styles for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. AJ Styles came out first. Daniel Bryan was shown on the screen, who delivered a promo from home. He hopes Hardy can give SmackDown the IC Champion it deserves. AJ Styles hit a nice Pele Kick right across the neck of Jeff Hardy as he was going for Twist of Fate. Hardy is selling the right knee hardcore. He goes to the top rope and falls off. Corey Graves says the referee needs to step in and call this. Styles sets up for the Phenomenal Foreman. Hardy counters with a stiff right hand. Styles rolls through to the Calf Crusher. The hold is broken when Hardy makes it to the ropes. Styles goes for Styles Clash but Hardy hit him in the face with the knee brace. Twist of Fate and Hardy is going to the top rope. Styles is rocked! Swanton Bomb on Styles and Hardy makes the cover for the three count. Winner and NEW WWE Intercontinental Champion, Jeff Hardy

Backstage, AJ Styles is shown with Joseph Parks. He is enraged about losing the Intercontinental Championship. He accuses Hardy of cheating with the knee brace.

The Firefly FunHouse with Bray Wyatt. He talks about the dangers of love and Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss. They show Muppet versions of Strowman and Bliss who talk about something special between them. Wyatt screams cut and questions what is going on. He says that is not at all how it went down. Wyatt tells the Muppet versions to get lost. Love can only lead to pain and suffering. Be more like him. The Fiend that is built on fuel and range, built on anger. And he cannot wait to get his hands on you Braun. In fact, what took you so long. Out of nowhere, Strowman comes in and takes out Wyatt and says, “I’m not finished with you.” The show went to commercial.

We’re back from break and Michael Cole says there is major backstage brawl between Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman. The cameras go to the loading docks and we see Wyatt getting tossed off. An ambulance is seen backing into the bay to load Wyatt up. Producers and referees assist. EMS loads Wyatt on a stretcher as referees assist. Cole and Graves question what this means for SummerSlam. They show a replay of what just happened, which showed Strowman smiling as he dumped Wyatt onto the loading dock.

The ambulance stopped on its way out. It started to back up as producers screamed for them to go. Adam Pearce, the producer, is shown backing up. The Fiend emerges in tact from the ambulance with the red lighting illuminating from the ambulance. The Fiend laughs as Cole says “It’s him.” The show fades.
