Tony Khan Says AEW Has Better Wrestlers Than NXT, Attendance, What You Didn’t See

– AEW Founder and President Tony Khan turned some heads with a quote he gave The Los Angeles Times prior to the Dynamite premiere, where he asserted they have better wrestlers than NXT:

“The AEW roster has much bigger stars and better wrestlers frankly than the NXT roster,” Khan said. “The AEW shows are going to be in major arenas instead of a smaller building in front of a few hundred people. But I think it’s a good competition for us. It attracts more fans to the idea of the Wednesday night wars. I think the most compelling story in wrestling these days in many ways is AEW vs. WWE. Fans see the competition between wrestling companies, which is the one thing traditionally everyone has known is real.

– 14,129 was the announced attendance for tonight’s live AEW Dynamite taping from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The show was billed as a legitimate sellout and AEW is already hyping that next week’s show in Boston is sold out.

– Darby Allin beat CIMA via pinfall with the Coffin Drop in a dark match prior to AEW Dynamite. CIMA played the heel, Darby was over as a babyface.

– Lucha Bros, Jack Evans and Angelico beat Private Party and Best Friends in a dark match following the taping.

– In a second post-show dark match, Britt Baker and Allie beat Penelope Ford and Bea Priestley.

– SCU beat Luchasaurus, Marko Stunt & Jungle Boy after a double team backstabber in a third dark match.
