> New Japan Pro-Wrestling said on Nov. 6 that its American subsidiary, New Japan Pro-Wrestling of America Inc., will cease operations and enter liquidation. NJPW says events in North America will continue with the backing of the TV Asahi group.

## The quick version

- NJPW posted a notice on its website on Nov. 6 saying New Japan Pro-Wrestling of America Inc. will cease operations and enter liquidation.
- NJPW says events in North America will continue "with the full backing and resources of the TV Asahi group."
- The notice does not say how upcoming shows, staff or partnerships are affected.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced on Nov. 6 that its American subsidiary will shut down. The notice, posted on NJPW's website under the title "Regarding NJPW subsidiary New Japan of America", says the company will "cease operations and enter liquidation." Fightful, F4W Online, Cultaholic and Features of Wrestling all carried the notice the same day.

## What NJPW said

The full statement reads: "New Japan Pro-Wrestling hereby announces that subsidiary New Japan Pro-Wrestling of America Inc will cease operations and enter liquidation. As NJPW continues to optimize allocation of management resources in a rapidly changing business environment, the decision was made to close the subsidiary, which was founded in 2019. Moving forward, NJPW events in North America will continue to be held with the full backing and resources of the TV Asahi group, as part of a new chapter in NJPW's ongoing global expansion."

## Background

- The subsidiary was founded in 2019, per NJPW. F4W Online puts the founding in October of that year.
- Cultaholic says it was based in California and launched the weekly NJPW STRONG series in 2020. That series stopped in 2023, and the STRONG titles remain active, per Cultaholic.
- The last NJPW of America event was Resurgence in May 2025 at Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, per Fightful and Features of Wrestling.
- Cultaholic notes the closure comes after NJPW changed owners in June 2026, when Bushiroad sold its majority stake to CyberAgent and TV Asahi. It reports each of those two companies now holds 46.3 percent. NJPW's notice does not link the closure to the sale, and we are not drawing that link.

## What the notice does not say

The statement does not name a North American show, say what happens to the subsidiary's staff or contracts, or explain how TV Asahi's role will work in practice, as SEScoops also noted. We have not seen any further comment from NJPW.

## What to watch

The first NJPW event with a North American link on the calendar is Lucha Kingdom in Mexico City on Nov. 16, which includes a defense of the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships. See our [Lucha Kingdom card story](https://wrestlingnews.com/story/njpw-cmll-lucha-kingdom-full-card-nov-16/). World Tag League starts Nov. 23 in Japan.
