Randy Orton turned on Ric Flair in the closing segment of tonight’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw.
After beating Kevin Owens, Orton told Flair they had something they needed to discuss. He blamed Flair’s mouth and ego for his match against Owens. He told him he no longer loved and respected him and that he was a liability. Flair put Randy over as the greatest performer in the world and someone who he wants to see break his record of championships. Orton hugged Flair, only to hit a low blow and set him up for the punt, presumably connecting with it when the lights went out.
WWE Champion Drew McIntyre ran out after to check on Flair and promised Orton would pay in their match at SummerSlam.
The angle was used as a reason to write Flair off WWE TV and put the focus solely on Orton vs. McIntyre, while also setting Orton up as the legitimate legend killer.
