Mysterio Off WWE TV?, Backstage Update On Apollo Crews, Confusing PPV Finish, The Miz’s Longevity

Was Rey Mysterio having his “eye removed” a way to write him off television over his uncertain contract status with WWE?

Rey Mysterio continues to work on WWE television without a contract. This is extremely rare but there is optimism a deal can be worked out. The eye angle gives WWE some flexibility but there is a chance Mysterio will return, which WWE was careful to explain in their update. I will have my thoughts on The Horror Show at Extreme Rules online later today, however, these type of gimmicks are what happens when Vince McMahon does not have a real live audience to hold him accountable. I do not think he would have tried this match with cell phones everywhere.

What does Vince McMahon see in The Miz to give him such longevity in the company?

Vince McMahon is high up on The Miz because of the way he looks, talks and carries himself. He loves the way he dresses and how he comes off as “Hollywood.” At one point he was seen as a near main event caliber talent, holding the WWE Championship in 2011 after winning the Money in the Bank contract. I have seen quite the evolution of Miz throughout his time in WWE. When he first got there he was seen as the guy from the Real World and was resented. At one point he was not even allowed to change in the locker room with everyone else. But he worked hard, kept grinding and has had a very successful run. In fact, I dislike how he and John Morrison are more or less booked as afterthoughts but it is Vince’s current vision.

Why would WWE book such a strange finish with Sasha Banks “beating” Asuka for the WWE Raw Women’s Champion after Bayley took the referee’s shirt off and called for the bell.

The feeling was there needed to be a cliffhanger at Extreme Rules to encourage people to tune in to Raw tonight to find out what happened. The show’s poor performance in the ratings last week created a sense of urgency, which is why WWE has been heavily promoting the unsanctioned match between Randy Orton and The Big Show. The finish of the Raw women’s title bout at Extreme Rules did lack logic. Why would they not just send another referee out? How many times have we seen this before? A referee goes down and a new referee comes out, we know there were more referees in the building. The rationale was “we will create a cliffhanger” but the execution was confusing and did not come off well.

What is the scoop on Apollo Crews being removed from the United States Championship bout at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules?

Apollo Crews was good to go as of the middle of last week so when it was announced on the pay-per-view broadcast he failed his pre-match physical, everyone immediately wondered what was happening. Most assumed it had to do with a COVID-19 test, which is the concern. There were COVID-19 concerns with Crews so he was not cleared to work the pay-per-view. He is set for further testing today. He sent out a tweet during the broadcast, making it clear his program with MVP [and Lashley] is alive and well.
