AEW World Champion Jon Moxley was a guest on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio where he discussed the madness of WWE’s scripted promos.
Moxley, who was formerly known as Dean Ambrose in WWE, is on record several times about his discontent for being micromanaged in WWE. He signed a WWE developmental contract in 2011 and was called up to the main roster at Survivor Series 2012 alongside Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in a faction known as The Shield.
Moxley explained that he always heard the phrase “scripted promo” and thought they were being given suggestions. However, he stated the writers gave him the scripts and instructed him to memorize them. He recalled after that, he knew he had made a terrible mistake.

Moxley referred to Vince McMahon as a “74-year-old madman” who would write stuff that would make him look stupid. He is relieved that he will never be in that situation again.
Moxley signed with AEW in 2019. One of the upstart promotion’s hallmarks is the fact there are no scripted promos. An initiative has been made to allow talent creative freedom to get over. Chris Jericho in particular has thrived under this style.
Moxley, while now AEW’s top guy, is the real-life husband of Renee Young, who still works for WWE.
