How WWE Botched RETRIBUTION, Does Owens Regret WWE Contract?, Future Of Hurt Business, McIntyre At Survivor Series

How would you have booked RETRIBUTION if you worked for WWE? And what are your thoughts on the faction so far?

Unlike the majority of the IWC, I was optimistic when the RETRIBUTION faction debuted. When they took the chainsaw to the ring ropes, I saw serious potential in a group of outsiders coming to cause chaos in WWE. And then the missteps. Misstep number one – WWE made them exclusive to Raw. So they are showing up to cause chaos but now they can only do so on one brand? Misstep number two – core Retribution members were offered contracts. The group had been causing fires, disrupting matches and segments, destroying rings and now they are given contracts? Misstep number three – the names and the masks. T-Bar, Slapjack and Mace. Does that need explained? WWE finished things off with a forgettable program against The Hurt Business with clear booking indicating they are ready to move on if need be. It was a huge missed opportunity. Everyone loves factions and RETIRBUTION had some promise but everything WWE did, I would have done the exact opposite.

What are the chances The Hurt Business adds another member, specifically a female?

Adding a female to The Hurt Business was talked about a couple months ago but has quieted down lately. Right now it is possible but certainly not a priority. The Hurt Business is in a much better position than RETRIBUTION moving forward.

Do you think Kevin Owens regrets signing such a long deal with WWE given how badly he is misused?

Kevin Owens signed a five-year WWE contract in 2018 so he is presumably locked up through some time in 2023. He has gotten over with Vince McMahon behind-the-scenes but he has no creative direction. Given the current environment, I doubt there is much regret as he has a deal that keeps him financially secure during a very difficult time. Obviously fans will point to AEW and think it could provide better opportunities but nothing is certain. I doubt there is regret right now but there is no way he cannot be frustrated with how he has been booked.

What are Drew McIntyre’s plans for Survivor Series?

WWE has been careful to protect Drew McIntyre in an ongoing program with Randy Orton and The Fiend Bray Wyatt. Orton is facing Roman Reigns in a meaningless Champion vs. Champion non-title singles match at Survivor Series. There has been talk about McIntyre joining Team Raw. Regardless, WWE is committed to him as a top babyface on the red brand.
