I understand Angel Garza was injured during the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship match at Clash of Champions but why on earth did the referee call for the bell at two? Surely the call could have been made to Andrade to not kick out.
Yes, I agree. The referee initiated the aborted finish because Angel Garza suffered a legitimate hip injury in the match. They had to go-home quickly but the referee was unable to convey the finish to Andrade, who was unaware. This is why he kicked out at two, which was clear for everyone. This isn’t the first time this has happened recently and I’m not sure why the referees have such a hard time communicating with the talent in the ring.
What were your thoughts on WWE Clash of Champions?
The triple threat ladder match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship was outstanding and the match of the night. The pay-per-view had a lot of filler but both the WWE Championship and WWE Universal Championship matches were fun. I enjoyed all of the legends showing up in the Ambulance Match and it was a good way to provide some closure. I said on Friday Orton needed to go out as champion but the way it was booked, they can do another match to blow off the program. Jey Uso answered the call in a pay-per-view main event and the storytelling in that match was as good as you’ll see in WWE. Roman Reigns is thriving in this new role and he comes out of Clash of Champions more like a heel than ever.
Do you think it was smart of The Rock to publicly endorse Joe Biden and Kamala Harris?
I was surprised to see The Rock make a presidential endorsement but it is not the first time he has gotten involved in politics. In 2000, he actually spoke at the Republican National Convention. If you watch this interview from 20 years ago, his message is the same. Everyone needs to vote. While Rock did officially endorse Joe Biden, he seems more concerned everyone exercises their right to vote than they actually vote for Biden. I do not get offended over politics. There are a lot of diverse opinions and views in professional wrestling just like the rest of the world. A lot of people just choose not to talk about it.
Does T-Bar look ridiculous defending Retribution on social media?
T-Bar is working through his Twitter account, trying to establish himself as the group is being pushed. I always say workers have to take advantage of opportunities and even though things are not going well for Retribution, this is a huge opportunity. T-Bar is smart for taking advantage of the push and putting stuff on Twitter that will get people talking and dirt sheets embedding.
Any thoughts on the changes to the WWE Clash of Champions card?
The changes are to be expected as WWE continues to operate through the pandemic. While we cannot confirm a positive test between Nikki Cross, Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler, we can say with a high degree of certainty they were pulled due to concerns regarding COVID-19. I don’t want to see anyone get sick but this is the right way to handle things. Test as much as possible, isolate cases and remove them. The show must go on, as we discussed here in Ask WNC.
