What are your thoughts on the way Dominik Mysterio was beaten with the kendo stick on last night’s WWE Raw?
That was as intense of a beating with a kendo stick as you will see in professional wrestling today. The segment would have generated a ton of heat on Seth Rollins had an actual live crowd been present. It is clear Rey Mysterio is sticking around WWE and this angle is going to involve him again. Some may say WWE went too far with this but I did not think so. Seth Rollins got beat up badly, now Dominik has been beaten up badly. The program is as hot as ever heading into SummerSlam and is exactly what you want with a big four pay-per-view. Was the segment hard to watch? Yes. Was it exactly what was needed to sell the program? Yes.
I saw where Madusa called out WWE for the Raw Underground dancers and former producer Lance Storm agreed. Do you think there is any place for this in professional wrestling in 2020?
The dancers do not offend me in the slightest. I am all about “reading the room” and putting out content that is relevant for the modern day but what is the issue with women dancing? I am telling you – the Attitude Era would never work today because someone would get so offended there would be a dedicated hashtag to boycott the business forever. So many fans want the action that brought us Steve Austin and The Rock but yet anything outside of the norm is criticized as over the top. WWE has only regained a very small portion of its edge, yet they are still relentlessly criticized. Stop getting offended over everything and try to enjoy the product for what it is – entertainment. When there is something offensive, such as Vince McMahon making a certain Diva get on her hands and knees and bark like a dog, we will call it out for the disgusting spectacle that it is. Otherwise, surely we understand it’s professional wrestling and not a church service.
How good is Randy Orton right now and how about him turning on Ric Flair?
Randy Orton turning on Ric Flair was expected and was a brilliantly done segment on this week’s WWE Raw. Orton has had a great career but this is his best run yet. He has been freed to have the ultimate heel character and destroy everyone in his path. The only thing missing is a live crowd, which I believe would put him on an entirely different level. What WWE is doing with Orton right now is working in a big way and they need to keep it going for as long as possible.
When will WWE announce the SummerSlam location?
I would expect we will hear something in regards to the SummerSlam location by next week. Vince McMahon has been exploring options to give the show a different feeling, recently talking with Metropolitan Park in Jacksonville. At this point it is unknown if the show will take place in Florida, in the Northeast, or on a cruise ship but the chances are it will be somewhere other than the Performance Center.
