Drake Maverick is under contract with WWE once again after being released in April.
The former 205 Live General Manager came up short on Wednesday against El Hijo del Fantasma in the tournament finals to crown the new NXT Cruiserweight Champion. However, Triple H met Maverick at the entrance to present him with a new contract.
Fightful Select is reporting that Maverick knew of his re-signing before participating in the emotional segment. Despite that, there’s no word yet on why exactly WWE opted to go the questionable route of firing him during a pandemic, using him for emotional storytelling, and then renewing his contract.
It appears Maverick will remain on the NXT roster and will likely compete in the cruiserweight division going forward.
