WWE Announces Tournament To Crown New Intercontinental Champion

As announced on WWE Backstage on Tuesday, Sami Zayn is “unable to compete,” therefore the Intercontinental Championship has been declared vacant.

A tournament to crown a new champion will commence on this week’s Friday Night SmackDown. Details on the tournament are unknown at this time.

Zayn last appeared at WrestleMania 36 (which was taped in March) when he successfully defended the Intercontinental Championship against Daniel Bryan.
