WWE released Zelina Vega on Friday in a move that surprised many and was the talk of social media before SmackDown hit the air.
Word going around, according to several sources, is that Vega recently stood her ground against WWE’s edict for talent to cease all third-party affiliations. This edict called for WWE talent to essentially “hand over” their streaming accounts to WWE.
From the outside looking in, it appears WWE wanted to “send a message” to the rest of the locker room while making an example of Vega’s release.
It’s also being said that Vega was backstage at the Amway Center in Orlando for SmackDown when she caught wind of WWE’s plan to release her. This could explain the timely tweet simply stating, “I support unionization,” just ten minutes before WWE announced her departure.
In addition to the unionization tweet, Vega thanked the WWE Universe and those that believed in her for the last few years. She also posted on Instagram, “See you on Twitch.”
