Surprise Opponent For Roman Reigns, WWE Phasing Out Retribution, Next WWE Champion

If Big E vs. Roman Reigns happens at WrestleMania 37 next year, who wins?

Big E is in for a strong push as a singles Superstar on SmackDown to the point where WWE moved Kofi Kinston and Xavier Woods to Raw to put the focus all on him. I do not know if he will make it to the level of challenging Reigns at WrestleMania 37. It is possible as Drew McIntyre had quite the elevation to begin 2020 but it is far from certain. We will take a “wait and see” approach, especially in light of the pandemic. If WWE is able to have live fans, I see them putting out some very established top Superstars in the show’s main events.

Where is WWE going with Retribution? Losing clean on Raw and T-Bar taking Bray Wyatt’s finisher. They were completely buried.

It looked like WWE was in the process of wrapping up the Retribution faction on this week’s Raw. The Hurt Business went over them clean and Wyatt dismissed T-Bar. Mustafa Ali even resolved the SmackDown hacker angle. It looks like WWE is admitting failure and moving on. There is always a chance they hang on a couple more weeks but based on the direction this week on Raw, the faction has a very short leash.

Do you think Drew McIntyre beats Randy Orton at Hell in a Cell and faces Roman Reigns in a champion vs. champion match?

As we wrote earlier this week, Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton is over after Hell in a Cell so they will each get new programs. I have not heard plans for the WWE Championship but it would make the most sense if Orton left the program as champion. I predicted him to go over at Night of Champions in the event that would be the blowoff. It wasn’t so McIntyre retained. I would be surprised of any champion vs. champion match this close after the WWE Draft. So to answer your question, the scenario you suggested is unlikely.

Do you see a bigger twist coming with Mustafa Ali and Retribution?

Not at this time. As described above, Retribution is on life support. WWE did everything they needed to do to wrap up the angle on this week’s Raw. It may survive but barring a miracle turnaround, it will likely be phased out.
