Shane McMahon has been excluded from WWE television lately because the writers haven’t had anything for him, per Dave Meltzer. Meltzer noted Vince is the guy that’s been writing and has forgotten about his son’s angle.
McMahon was involved in a summer program with Kevin Owens, which resulted in a SummerSlam bout between the two. Owens won the match, as the stipulation was if Owens lost, he would have quit WWE.
