WWE NXT TakeOver XXX Results – 8/22/2020
From Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL

#1 Contender’s Pre-Show Match: Breezango def. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch and Legado Del Fantasma. The finish saw Breeze pin Lorcan. Action was kept at a fast pace with flips and dives around and out of the ring. Breezango are next in line to challenge Imperium for the NXT Tag Team Championship.

The main card opens with a video package highlighting the thirty TakeOver events, plus the lineup for tonight. Corey Graves and Vic Joseph are calling the show in-house with Beth Phoenix working remotely. Mauro Ranallo is absent.

Finn Balor def. Timothy Thatcher via pinfall following 1916. Thatcher controlled a majority of the match as the two worked a methodical style using strength and submissions. Balor earned his twelfth TakeOver win.

North American Championship Ladder Match: Damian Priest def. Bronson Reed, Cameron Grimes, Johnny Gargano & Velveteen Dream. As expected, the match was full of wild bumps and dives. At one point, Candice LeRae prevented Cameron Grimes from climbing the ladder. She got physically involved by flipping Grimes out of the ring with a hurricanrana, and then holding onto Bronson for a splash onto Johnny from the top of a ladder. The finish saw Gargano and Priest do a tug of war over the title on top of the ladder before Priest kicked Johnny down. Below are highlight clips from the match.

Adam Cole def. Pat McAfee via pinfall. McAfee and Cole engaged in basic lockups and headlocks up front before McAfee’s football players, Undisputed Era, and extra security got into a shoving match outside the ring. McAfee landed a beautiful swanton bomb onto the sea of people. McAfee proved to not to be doubted with his incredible athleticism. In the end, Cole was victorious with a Panama Sunrise. Surely this isn’t the last we see of McAfee in a WWE ring.

NXT Women’s Championship Match: Io Shirai (c) def. Dakota Kai via pinfall to retain. The match was “over booked” with Raquel Gonzalez interfering following a ref bump. Shirai prevailed, but Rhea Ripley came out for a face-off with Raquel.

NXT UK returns on September 17 and Tommaso Ciampa returns to NXT this Wednesday.

NXT Championship Match: Karrion Kross def. Keith Lee (c) via pinfall to become the new champion. Kross was dominant, but it wasn’t as one-sided as his other matches thus far. The pace was kept much slower compared to everything else on the card.
