WWE Hall of Famer Mike Tyson is returning to the ring.
Tyson, 54, will fight Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition on September 12 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. It will be broadcast on pay-per-view and on the multimedia platform Triller. Triller will build up to the bout in a 10-part docuseries.
Tyson has not fought in 15 years, when he lost to Kevin McBride on June 11, 2005 in Washington, DC. The former undisputed heavyweight champion was on ESPN’s First Take today and explained he is returning because he can do it. We have highlights from that appearance embedded in the player above.
Jones, 51, is also considered one of the best boxers of all time. He last fought in February 2018, where he beat Scott Sigmon by decision. Enzo Maccarinelli knocked Jones out in four rounds in 2015.
It is not believed the boxers will be required to wear headgear but that they will use 12-ounce gloves. The Athletic reports former NBA player Nate Robinson and YouTuber Jake Paul will fight on the under card.
Tyson played a pivotal role in the WWF at the beginning of the Attitude Era. He served as the special outside enforcer for Steve Austin vs. Shawn Michaels for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XIV. He recently appeared on All Elite Wrestling’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view back in May.
Tyson was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame’s celebrity wing in 2012.
