With Impact Wrestling Slammiversary taking place on Saturday and multiple former WWE talents seeing their non-competes expire, is it reasonable to expect at this one of these names at the pay-per-view?
It is reasonable to expect at least one former WWE star to appear at Slammiversary, we just cannot confirm who it will be right now. EC3 is teasing an appearance in media interviews, while Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson are rumored to have agreed to deals with Impact. Eric Young, formerly of Impact, is rumored to have garnered interest as well as Health Slater. Slammiversary took a big hit with the unexpected departure of Tessa Blanchard so the promotion will look to do something special to re-write headlines. We have the final Slammiversary lineup at this link and will have complete live coverage on Saturday night.
How much do you think can be expected of Edge given he suffered a serious injury in his first match back?
Like I discussed earlier in the week, Edge’s injury was an isolated injury that could have happened to anyone. Edge is doing well in his recovery, which is not near as cumbersome as the torn Achilles he suffered. However, he is on record as to stating he ignored elbow pain prior to the match against Randy Orton and blamed it on bone chips he knew he already had. He probably faced Orton with a partially torn triceps and the match just finished the job. I know Edge wants to go out on his own terms and is working hard to get back in the ring. As noted, WWE expects him back. The company wants to push him as one of their top guys as a “major attraction” similar to what they have done with John Cena and Brock Lesnar.
Do you think The Undertaker is really retired?
Most fans have already brought up the fact Undertaker never used the word retire in his docu-series and was careful to never say never. Does one ever actually retire from the wrestling business? That said, Undertaker is 55-years-old and has absolutely nothing left to prove as he’s already among the greatest of all-time. There have been times when I thought it was over for Undertaker and he fought right back to make sure his legacy was preserved. His Boneyard Match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36 was one of the best things WWE has done in the past few years and would be a great way to go out on top. However, would Undertaker rather go out in front of the fans? I could see another Undertaker match happening or even a farewell tour of sorts but right now, we will operate under the assumption that he is retired.
What’s the story behind Health Slater returning on Raw just weeks before his non-compete expires?
Heath Slater worked a per shot after being convinced by his good friend Drew McIntyre. I think Heath was hurt by his WWE release and did not really want to do it but also realized it was an opportunity to get himself out there. Slater will have another opportunity in the business and as I noted earlier, has garnered interest from Impact.
How often does Vince McMahon listen to talent who pitch him ideas?
As noted earlier in the week, Vince McMahon is more approachable than people think. Talent is always trying to get into his ear and when they cannot get him to listen, they will even take it to Triple H. Charlotte Flair, who has as much pull as anyone backstage, recently stated she is pushing for a program with Stephanie McMahon. Will we see it? Time will tell.
