WWE NXT Results (9/1/20) – Iron Man Match Ends With Cliffhanger

Welcome to our live coverage of tonight’s episode of WWE NXT on USA Network. Please read our preview of the broadcast. We will see a four-way 60-minute Iron Man match to crown a new NXT Champion and much more.

WWE NXT Results – 9/1/2020
From Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL

The show opens with a video package hyping up the main event where four of NXT’s greatest will battle for an hour to determine the new NXT Champion. We then head to the ring for NXT’s first six-man street fight.

Of note, Vic Joseph and Wade Barrett are once again in-house to call the show with Beth Phoenix working remotely. Mauro Ranallo’s passionate calls will be missed.

6-Man Street Fight: Isaiah “Serve” Scott & Breezango def. Legado del Fantasma via pinfall with Swerve going over Escobar.

  • Legado del Fantasma are dressed for a street fight, unlike their opponents. Mendoza gets the match started hot by flying outside before the bell is called for. Wilde follows suit by diving onto Swerve. A couple minutes pass before the action hits the ring. Breeze used a fire extinguisher to wipe everyone out before the break.
  • Toward the end, Imperium attacked Breeze on the ramp, leading to a double team with Wilde & Mendoza joining in. All five circle Breeze in the ring before the camera pans to Fandango and Swerve leaping off of a forklift. The babyface comeback results in Swerve nailing Escobar with a package driver for the three-count.

In a new video package, Tegan Nox addresses her friendship with Candice LeRae changing over the last six months. Nox wants things to change between them.

Candice LeRae def. Kacy Catanzaro via pinfall following a stomp to the head.

  • LeRae controlled the first half of the match with Catanzaro fighting back for a brief flurry of offense. LeRae stomped Kacy’s head into the mat for the victory.
  • Post-match, LeRae says she was a little of jealous seeing Kacy & Kayden’s friendship because it reminded her of the friendship she used to have with Tegan. Candice says she wants to hash things out too. Candice invites Tegan to her house. “Dinner’s on me.”

Backstage, Rhea Ripley calls out Mercedes Martinez. She wants to settle the score in a steel cage match.

Timothy Thatcher def. Bronson Reed via submission with an assist from Austin Theory.

  • Lock-ups and uppercuts up front. Thatcher manages to ground Reed by working the elbow. Reed bounces back with a strong forearm. While the ref was checking on Thatcher, Austin Theory took Reed down outside before tossing him back in. Reed gets trapped in an arm bar and taps.
  • Thatcher will likely continue his North American Championship pursuits, while Reed will look for retribution (no pun intended) against Theory.

Mercedes Martinez has accepted Rhea’s challenge for a Steel Cage Match next Tuesday.

4-Way 60-Minute Iron Man NXT Championship Match: Finn Balor and Adam Cole tied (2 wins) over Johnny Gargano (1 win) and Tommaso Ciampa (1 win)

  • Finn Balor pinned Adam Cole following Coup de Gras to score the first fall with 34 minutes to go.
  • Johnny Gargano pinned Finn Balor with 26 minutes remaining. Ciampa hit Fairy Tale Ending on Balor, but Gargano tossed Ciampa out.
  • Adam Cole pinned Gargano following Panama Sunrise with 24 minutes to go.
  • Tommaso Ciampa pinned Cole following Fairy Tale Ending with under 23 minutes remaining. Everyone is tied at one apiece.
  • Balor pinned Ciampa following Coup de Gras with 20 seconds left.
  • Cole pinned Balor following Last Shot as the buzzer ran out.
  • Balor and Cole are tied with 2 wins each. As a result, William Regal announced Balor vs. Cole next Tuesday will decide the new NXT Champion.
