Dave Meltzer is reporting that WWE released Cain Velasquez and furloughed Gerald Brisco recently.
Velasquez joined WWE last year when SmackDown moved to FOX in October. His only televised match occurred at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, where he lost a quick WWE Championship match to Brock Lesnar.
Velasquez was said to have a signed a lucrative multi-year contract, and likely received a decent payout when his contract was terminated.
It’s also being reported that long-time employee Gerald Brisco has been furloughed for the time being.
WWE released over twenty on-air talent over the last few weeks in response to the pandemic affecting the company’s finances.
