AEW announced on Wednesday night that Joey Janela was exposed to a known positive COVID-19 case over the weekend. As a result, Janela will not be able to face Kenny Omega in a first-round World Championship Contender’s Tournament match.
It’s since been announced that Janela’s tag partner Sonny Kiss will serve as the replacement versus Omega.
AEW and Joey Janela learned today that he had exposure to a known COVID-19 positive person at an independent show. For that reason we are pulling him until such time as he is cleared to return consistent with our protocols. pic.twitter.com/V8TJiAhuNF
